Welcome to the Greater Boston, MA area!
Oliver Wendell Holmes called it "The Hub of the Universe."
For many it is best known as "Beantown." Enjoy a tour
on the “Freedom Trail” or our infamous “Duck Tours”
and you’ll re-learn the role Boston played during the American
Revolution and in our nation’s history. Boston is a city of
many firsts, it is the oldest major city in the nation, the home
of the first public school “Boston Latin” in 1635, the
oldest public transportation system (subway and bus) called the
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (“MBTA”)
or nick-named the “T” by locals, as well as the nation’s
first marathon – the “Boston Marathon” - held
every year on Patriot’s Day which commemorates the battle
of Lexington and Concord fought on April 19, 1775. And yes, this
is where the midnight ride of Paul Revere and William Dawes warned
everyone that “The British are coming!”.
Boston is home of several prestigious higher educational institutions
such Harvard University (the first college in the country), Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (“MIT”), Boston College (“BC”),
Boston University (“BU”) and Northeastern University
- for almost a century Boston dominated in the areas of education,
literature and publishing. There are more than 250,000 students
attending higher education attend in Boston and Cambridge not to
mention thousands more in the surrounding suburbs.
Literary favorites Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry
David Thoreau, Henry James and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow are all
associated with Boston. Boston architecture combines the old with
the new, boasting historical designs from Charles Bulfinch, Henry
Hobson Richardson, Ogden Codman Jr., and Frederick Law Olmsted to
name a few.
Today Boston is rich not only in architecture but also in ethnicities,
religions, cultures and a vast diversity of neighborhoods each reflecting
the flavors and tastes of those who came from distant lands. World-class
dining abounds, we are spoiled by international delicacies available
in restaurants, gourmet shops and grocery stores. World-call exhibits
at the Museum of Fine Arts (“MFA”), the Boston Symphony
and the Boston Pops are not only local favorites but internationally
re-known institutions.
The local economy is fueled by strong employment industries such
as educational, financial, medical, technology, biotech, hospitality,
travel and tourism. We are also passionate about sports, to say
the least. Finally we can boast about our World Series Champions
Boston Red Sox and the Super Bowl Champions New England Patriots!
For basketball lovers we have the Boston Celtics, hockey fans enjoy
the Boston Bruins and soccer fans can cheer for the Boston Revolution.
